Your first steps when beginning your journey with a new piece of software is to install it and this should be as easy as possible, which is why we have prepared this document in case you need some help. Here, you’ll find everything you need to know, compiled in an easy to follow format. Let’s begin.
Downloading Enscape
Typically, you would want to download and use the most recent ‘Live’ version of Enscape and the installer for both Windows and Mac can be found here: Download Enscape
However, there is a different version of Enscape you may also be interested in, called the Enscape Preview. This ‘Preview’ version is, in a way, a beta version of the currently upcoming update, where new features, bug fixes and improvements are introduced for the first time.
What is the difference between these two versions?
- The ‘Live’ version is the officially released current version and the most recent stable build of Enscape.
- The ‘Preview’ on the other hand, contains work-in-progress code and some features may not work as expected. Stability during certain actions can also be compromised.
When would the ‘Preview’ version be preferable?
- Perhaps you are interested in Enscape, because of a newly introduced feature your business desires to implement and you would like to test it in advance.
- Another valid reason would be the introduction of support for a newer version of the host application you’re using. For example, support for Rhino 8 was available in the ‘Preview’ version for a while, before it was officially released with the ‘Live’ version of Enscape.
- In some rare cases, you may be experiencing a bug with the ‘Live’ version, which affects your workflow and a fix for this bug would be available in the upcoming ‘Preview’ version.
In most other scenarios, you would benefit from using the ‘Live’ version due to the stability it inherently offers.
Installing & Uninstalling Enscape
Installing and uninstalling Enscape is typically a very straightforward process and we have prepared the following documents to guide you through the process:
Installing/Uninstalling Enscape on a Windows PC
Installing/Uninstalling Enscape on a Mac
While there isn’t a lot of nuance if you’re a Mac user, there a few things you should know if you’re a Windows user:
- Enscape should be installed as an administrator by right-clicking on the installer and selecting “Run as administrator”. This will ensure that Enscape has all the necessary permissions to function properly.
- Enscape should be installed for for all users, by choosing the ‘Advanced’ installation and selecting “Install for all users of this machine”
- Finally, when reinstalling Enscape, there’s the possibility of leftover folders/files remaining. To completely remove any trace of the previous installation and ensure that you’re working with a “clean slate”, delete the following folders after uninstalling Enscape:
-
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Enscape
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Enscape
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Temp\Enscape
and the following file - %localappdata%\Chaos\UnifiedLogin\ula.db
C:\Program Files\Enscape
C:\Program Files\Chaos\VRLService
C:\Program Files\Chaos\UnifiedLogin
Enabling/Activating Enscape
Enabling Enscape is an easy, but different process for each host application, and we have prepared a guide for each. You can find it here - Enable Enscape
Note: Please keep in mind that Enscape isn’t a standalone application, which means that you won’t find a desktop icon to start it from. It can only be started from within your host application.
With that, you should be able to start your journey with Enscape.
In some rare cases, you may find out that Enscape isn’t showing up in your host application. Here’s what you should do if this happens:
- Ensure that you meet the system requirements, including the host application version - Windows / macOS
