Following our May announcement about the move to Chaos Credits, we've introduced further improvements for cloud rendering in response to customer feedback. This FAQ focuses on what's new for rendering - the improved value, the dedicated annual pools, and how to plan your usage. For the fundamentals of Chaos Credits (what they are, what consumes them, how the Shared pool works), see the Chaos Credits FAQ.
I already received an update about Chaos Credits in May - what's new now?
In May we announced the move to Chaos Credits, the renaming of Chaos Cloud Credits to Cloud Rendering Credits, and that the two systems run in parallel. Building on that - and in response to feedback from cloud rendering customers - we've now improved the value of cloud rendering: a clearer credit equivalence, dedicated 30,000 and 60,000 Chaos Credit pools for rendering, and sample scenes to help you plan.
Why are you making this change?
We heard clear feedback from cloud rendering customers following the May transition. These updates respond to it directly - making rendering more cost-effective at scale and giving you dedicated pools and clearer planning tools.
Can I still buy Cloud Rendering Credits?
No - as announced in May, Cloud Rendering Credits are no longer available for new purchases. Your existing balance remains fully valid and is always used first for rendering.
How do Cloud Rendering Credits convert to Chaos Credits?
Use this simple equivalence to plan: 1 legacy Cloud Rendering Credit = 45 Chaos Credits. It gives you a clear, predictable basis for estimating rendering costs and choosing packages. N.B. Your existing balance runs in parallel and is used first.
What happens to the Cloud Rendering Credits I already have?
Nothing is lost - as communicated in May, the two systems run in parallel. Your existing Cloud Rendering Credits stay valid and are always used first for rendering, until they run out; only then do your Chaos Credits begin to draw down. Full detail is in the Chaos Credits FAQ.
Does the price of cloud rendering change?
The new system is designed to reward larger purchases with a better price per credit. Customers buying the equivalent of 5,000 or 10,000 legacy credits see a lower effective cost per credit - savings of up to 22.14% per credit versus previous pricing. Smaller packages (equivalent to 100-1,000 legacy credits) have increased by approximately 2-3% as part of the transition. The tables below show how it compares.
| Legacy amount | Old price | Closest new package | New price |
|---|---|---|---|
| 100 | €90.00 | 2× 3,000 Chaos (monthly) - ≈ 133 legacy-credit equivalent | €119.80 |
| 500 | €430.00 | 30,000 Chaos (annual) - ≈ 666 legacy-credit equivalent | €590.00 |
| 1,000 | €810.00 | 60,000 Chaos (annual) - ≈ 1,333 legacy-credit equivalent | €990.00 |
N.B. Estimating credit consumption
To help you plan, we've prepared a collection of sample scenes that show typical Chaos Credit consumption for common rendering jobs, based on the new 1:45 ratio. You can review them here.
Are there special larger packages?
Yes. There are special 30,000 and 60,000 Chaos Credit annual packages. You can buy them from our webshop or by contacting your preferred reseller. If you need more than 60,000 credits, contact our sales team or your reseller for a larger annual pool.
What happens when my Cloud Rendering Credits run out?
As communicated in May, once your Cloud Rendering Credits are used up the system switches seamlessly to your Chaos Credits - for rendering, AI, and for all other Chaos services. Please note: any rendering jobs in progress at the moment your Cloud Rendering Credits run out are paused and need to be resumed manually.
What packages are available?
For the full range and prices, visit the webshop or contact your preferred reseller.
Where can I buy Chaos Credits?
