Overview
Chaos Cosmos Update 12 introduces an exciting feature for 3D artists: assets with variants. This update is available in V-Ray 7 for 3ds Max, V-Ray 7 for SketchUp, and V-Ray 7 for Rhino. Designed to streamline workflows and enhance creativity, this feature provides a broader range of options for assets in the vegetation and people categories.
With variants, you can:
- Quickly preview multiple versions of a 3D model.
- Select the most suitable variant based on project requirements.
- Adjust material and/or geometry variations directly within their scenes.
Key Features of Asset Variants
-
Smart Control:
- Variants allow for easy customization of selected Cosmos assets, helping 3D artists find the perfect fit without searching for additional models.

How to Use Asset Variants
Users can access and manage asset variants in two convenient ways:
-
Download Variants from Chaos Cosmos Browser
- Open the Chaos Cosmos Browser and locate an asset with available variants.
- Preview the variations directly in the Cosmos browser.
- Download the desired variant and import it into your scene.
Examples of vegetation variations: Summer and Autumn setups in Cosmos browser.
-
Switch Variants Directly in V-Ray Proxy
- Import the asset into your scene as a V-Ray Proxy object.
- Select the V-Ray Proxy object and use the variant options to switch between available material or geometry variations without re-downloading.

Both methods provide flexibility depending on your workflow, whether you prefer selecting variants before importing or making adjustments directly within the scene.
Expanding Asset Library
The initial rollout includes a selection of assets in the vegetation and people categories, with plans to expand to more models and categories in future updates. Stay tuned for more choices to enhance your projects.
