What is adaptivity?

Adaptivity (adaptive image sampling) ensures a uniform noise level across your entire render. By intelligently redistributing computing power to the most complex areas - such as deep shadows or sharp glossy reflections - it prevents the common issue where some parts of an image remain grainy while others are already clean. When combined with denoising (3ds Max | C4D), this feature significantly accelerates render times, delivering a high-quality, polished result much faster.

How to use adaptivity?

Adaptivity is always enabled by default and does not feature any user-adjustable parameters.

Examples

1. Strong depth of field (3ds Max | C4D). Note that while some parts of the image are less noisy with adaptivity off, the overall noise is more uniform with adaptivity on.

1.1. Strong DOF - adaptivity on - 5 minutes.

1.2. Strong DOF - adaptivity off - 5 minutes.

2. Interior scene. With adaptivity off, noise is visible especially under the ceiling lamp in the mirror.

3. Adaptivity and denoising (3ds Max | C4D)
3.1.  Path tracing caustics - adaptivity on, denoising on - 10 minutes.
