This guide helps you estimate Chaos Cloud credits for still renders by comparing your local render time with the published Chaos Cloud sample scenes' render time. You do not need Chaos Cloud credits; you will render locally and then compare the results.
Setup
- Open the Chaos sample still scenes and choose your 3D host application:
-
Choose the V-Ray engine you want to test.
Sample scenes are available for V-Ray (CPU) and V-Ray GPU. V-Ray GPU scenes include “GPU” in their names.
-
Match the quality preset used in Chaos Cloud.
Review the Low and High Quality Settings, then download the scene variant that corresponds to the preset you want to compare.
-
Install the latest major V-Ray version used by the sample scenes to ensure accurate results.
Render locally and record the time
- Open the downloaded sample scene in your host application.
- Confirm the chosen quality preset is applied and avoid changing scene content or render settings beyond what the sample provides.
-
Render the still frame locally and record the total render time.
Compare your results with Chaos Cloud
- On the sample scene page, find the Chaos Cloud render time and credit cost listed below each scene preview (see, for example, the 3ds Max section).
- Compare your local render time to the published Chaos Cloud time to understand what the same render would cost in Chaos Cloud (in time and credits).
-
Use this as a baseline to estimate Chaos Cloud costs for your own scenes.
Tips for accurate comparisons
- Your results may differ from the sample scenes depending on scene content and settings.
- When testing your own projects in Chaos Cloud, start with a low-quality preset to verify the setup and gauge render time before increasing quality.
