Troubleshooting license activation for Corona 8 and newer

If you're having trouble activating your license, follow these basic troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue.

Important information for older versions

Verify Chaos License Server installation and sign-in

To ensure that the Chaos License Server, necessary for activating Corona, is installed and functioning, follow these steps:

  1. Open your preferred web browser.
  2. Enter the following address: http://localhost:30304/

You should see a "License Server" page displaying either your current license details and account information or a prompt to sign in:

If you encounter issues accessing the Chaos License Server, such as failure to load or error messages, proceed with the following steps:

Reinstalling the Chaos License Server

For Windows users

    1. Run the Corona installer and select the Custom installation mode.

    1. Click Next and ensure that the License Server item is checked.

  1. Click Install to complete the installation process.

For macOS users

    1. Run the Corona installer and select Customise.

    1. Ensure that the Chaos Licensing Server option is enabled.

Verify Chaos License Server installation

To confirm that the Chaos License Server is installed correctly:

  1. Open your web browser.
  2. Enter the address http://localhost:30304/ in the address bar.

If you cannot access the Chaos License Server, please contact our support team for assistance.

Upon accessing the Chaos License Server:

  • If your account name and available products are displayed, the installation issue is resolved, and you can begin using Corona.
  • If you see a “Sign in” option, sign in with your Chaos account. After signing in, your account name and available products should appear, allowing you to start using Corona.

Troubleshooting license activation issues

If you can access the Chaos License Server at http://localhost:30304/ and see your licenses, but the license won't activate in the host software, follow these steps:

For Windows users

  1. Uninstall the Chaos License Server:
    • Navigate to: Start Menu > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs, locate the Chaos License Server, and uninstall it.
  2. Delete the following folders:
    • C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\VRLService
    • C:\Program Files\Common Files\ChaosGroup\ssl
    • %appdata%\Chaos\VRLService\ssl
  3. Download and install the latest Chaos License Server from https://download.chaos.com/?platform=47&product=48.
  4. Access your Chaos License Server at http://localhost:30304/, sign in, and try to activate your licenses in the host software again.
  5. If you still encounter issues, please contact us with:
    1. A screenshot of what you see at http://localhost:30304/.
    2. A screenshot of any additional error or notification you encounter.

For macOS users

  1. Go to the ~Applications/ChaosGroup/VRLService/OLS/uninstall/ folder, open the "Uninstall" tool, and follow the prompts to uninstall the License Server. Close any remaining terminal windows.
  2. Remove any remaining files from the folder:
    /Users/<userName>/.ChaosGroup/ssl/

    Note: Replace <userName> with your macOS username. Use "Go to Folder..." from the "Go" menu in Finder to access the hidden folder.

  3. Download and install the latest Chaos License Server from https://download.chaos.com/?platform=47&product=48.

    Note: If the installer doesn't open with a double-click, right-click and choose "open," then confirm the permission to open the app.

  4. Once installed, access your Chaos License Server at http://127.0.0.1:30304/, sign in, and check if you can activate your licenses. If issues persist, please contact us with:
