Corona and Chaos License Server Basic Troubleshooting Steps

If you experience any difficulties in activating your license, these basic troubleshooting steps should help you.

Note: this article applies only to Corona 8 and newer. For Corona 7 and older, see:

Step 1 - Check that the Chaos License Server is properly installed and that you are signed in

Normally, the Chaos License Server, which is required to activate Corona, should be automatically installed with Corona. To check if it’s installed correctly, open your web browser and enter the following address: http://localhost:30304/

If the Chaos License Server is installed correctly you will see a website titled “License Server” with either your current license and account information or an option to sign in:

If you are unable to access the Chaos License Server (either it does not load at all or it shows an error message) please follow the below steps:

Step 2 - Reinstall the Chaos License Server by running the Corona installer

Windows:

Run the Corona installer and select the Custom installation mode:

Step 3 - Check if the Chaos License Server is now installed correctly

After the successful installation, open your web browser and enter the address http://localhost:30304/

If you are still unable to access the Chaos License Server at this point, please contact us

If you are able to access the Chaos License Server:

  • If it is showing your account name and the available products - the issue is now resolved and you can start using Corona.
  • If it is showing the “Sign in” option - please sign in with your Chaos account. You should then see your account name and the available products, and then you can start using Corona.

Step 4 - If you are still unable to activate your license

This applies, for example, if you can access the Chaos License Server at http://localhost:30304/ and you can see your licenses in it, but for some reason the license does not get activated in the host software and you cannot use Corona:

Windows:

  1. Go to the Windows "Add or remove programs" list, search for the Chaos License Server application and uninstall it.

  2. Remove any remaining files from the following folder:

Chaos License Server 6.0.0 or newer:

    C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Chaos\VRLService\ssl

Chaos License Server 5.5.5 or older:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\ChaosGroup\ssl

  3. Download and install the newest Chaos License Server:
    https://download.chaos.com/?platform=47&product=48

  4. Go to your Chaos License Server ( http://localhost:30304/ ), sign in, and check if you can see your licenses there and if you are able to activate your licenses in the host software now.

If you are still experiencing some issues at this point, please send us:
    1) A screenshot showing what exactly you see at http://localhost:30304/
    2) A screenshot of any additional error/notification you see

macOS:

1. Go to ~Applications/ChaosGroup/VRLService/OLS/uninstall/ folder and open the "Uninstall" tool and complete the process until the License Server is completely uninstalled. (close any terminal window that remains open)

2. Remove any remaining files from the following folder:

/Users/<userName>/.ChaosGroup/ssl/

Note 1: Since the mentioned folder is not visible, please use the "Go to Folder..." option from the menu "Go" in Finder, then copy & paste the folder path and click on the Go button.

Note 2: Please replace the <userName> text with your current user name registered on your mac.

3. Download and install the newest Chaos License Server:
https://download.chaos.com/?platform=47&product=48

Note 3: If you can't open the installer by double-clicking on it, simply right-click on it and choose the "open" option, then confirm the permission to open the app.

4. Once installed, go to your Chaos License Server ( http://127.0.0.1:30304/ ), sign in, and check if you can see your licenses there and if you are able to activate your licenses in the host software now.

If you are still experiencing some issues at this point, please send us:
1) A screenshot showing what exactly you see at http://127.0.0.1:30304/
2) A screenshot of any additional error/notification you see
