I am getting a crash when working with Envision

If you experience a crash while working with Envision, try the following troubleshooting steps:

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Make sure you are using the latest version of Envision:
    https://my.chaos.com/download/build?product=Envision&build-type=official&tags=windows-x64
  2. Verify System Requirements
Check if your hardware meets the minimum specifications:
    https://docs.chaos.com/display/ENVISION/System+Requirements

    Key GPU Requirements:
    • NVIDIA: RTX series or newer
    • AMD: RX 6000 series or newer (experimental support)
    • Intel: Arc Alchemist or newer (experimental support)
  3. Update your graphics card drivers.

    1. For NVIDIA: Use driver version 515 or newer.

    2. For AMD RX 6000 series or Intel Arc: Use latest drivers (support remains experimental).

  4. Make sure your Windows is up to date. You can check by going to Start > Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates. Make sure you have all available updates installed, restart your computer, and check again. You may need to repeat this a few times.

  5. Install the latest Visual C++ Redistributables from Microsoft:
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170

  6. Restart your system after updating drivers and Visual C++ Redistributables.

  7. Perform a clean reinstall of Envision: Uninstall the current version, delete leftover folders from C:\Users\_username_\AppData\Local\Chaos\Envision, restart your computer, and reinstall the latest version.

Still Having Issues?

If the problem persists, please reach out to Chaos Support.

Be sure to provide detailed information about the issue, including when and how the crashes occur. Additionally, include:

  • The exact version of Envision and other involved software - e.g. if you are exporting a scene through Enscape, share Enscape version as well.
  • Your Windows version.
  • Test scene that reproduces the problem.
  • Assets used in the scene (textures, models) - they are usually stored in the same folder as the .vrscene or .envision file resides in.
  • Envision dump file located at \AppData\Local\Chaos\Envision\CrashReports (include stacktrace.txt)
  • Simple steps or a video to reproduce the problem.
  • Screenshots of any UI that is appropriate for the issue.
  • Render settings (if relevant).
  • System specifications of the machine the issue appears on - most importantly the exact graphics card model, how much VRAM it has, and the driver version.
