Can I use Distributed Rendering within a VPN?

Corona's Distributed Rendering is intended for simple LAN setups, where all computers are connected using a single switch, so we do not recommend using VPNs. Using DR with a VPN may work, but sometimes may lead to various hard to diagnose issues, such as:

  • Render node auto discovery and status reporting (displaying state of the render node and memory usage in the VFB) not working correctly
  • Communication between the master computer and the nodes going into a loop of connecting and disconnecting
  • Freezing of the VFB until the rendering is finished
  • Crashes before the rendered image is saved

If you are experiencing similar issues, but you are not using a VPN, please contact us about this.
