V-Ray Swarm is an optional component for distributed rendering. A full V-Ray installation can include it by default along with the main plugin. You can easily skip installing Swarm by using the Advanced installation options.
General Steps (Applies to SketchUp, Rhino, and Revit)
- Download the official V-Ray installer for your host application from your Chaos account or the Chaos downloads page.
- Run the installer (administrator privileges are usually required on Windows; administrative rights on macOS).
- Accept the End User License Agreement and Global Consumer Privacy Policy.
- On the Host App Version (or equivalent) screen, select the version(s) of SketchUp, Rhino, or Revit you want to install for.
- Instead of clicking the default Install button, click Advanced (or Customize / Advanced Installation).
- You will reach an Additional Components (or similar) screen.
- Uncheck / deselect V-Ray Swarm.
- You can still choose to install or skip the Chaos License Server and other optional components as needed.
- Click Continue (or the equivalent next button).
Silent / Automated Installations
For silent installs (common in studios or for multiple machines), use a configuration XML file. Set the relevant values to disable Swarm:
- INSTALL_SWARM = 0 (does not install Swarm)
- SWARM_ENABLED = 0 (does not enable Swarm)
Example values appear in Chaos silent-installation documentation for Revit (and similar options exist for the other hosts). Generate a config file by running the installer once with -gui=0 (and optionally -quiet=1), customize it, then reuse it with -configFile="yourconfig.xml"
