This message means the Chaos Unified Login app cannot be accessed by your product. Most often this happens because:
- The Unified Login app is not started
- It’s disabled from starting with your system
- It’s blocked by a firewall or security tool
- It’s not installed correctly
Follow the steps for your operating system below.
Windows
1 Start Chaos Unified Login manually
- Click the Start button and start typing: Start Chaos Unified Login.
- Click the Start Chaos Unified Login shortcut.
- Start your Chaos product and try logging in again from the product.
If this fixes the issue but it comes back after a restart, continue with the next steps.
2 Make sure Chaos Unified Login starts with Windows
- Open the Windows Task Manager (you can use the Ctrl+Shift+Esc hotkey combination)
- Go to the Startup apps tab (this may be called Startup on older Windows versions)
- In the list, look for ulasupervisor.exe
- Make sure its Status is set to Enabled:
- If it says Disabled, right-click it and choose Enable.
- Restart your computer and check if the error is gone.
Some “PC optimizer”, “game booster”, or “startup manager” tools may silently disable Chaos Unified Login.
- Open any such tool you use and check its list of startup or background apps.
- Make sure Chaos Unified Login (ula.exe), Chaos Unified Supervisor (ulasupervisor.exe) are not blocked or disabled.
- Restart your computer and try using your Chaos product again.
3 Check your firewall / security software
If Chaos Unified Login appears to be running but you still see the error, a firewall or security suite may be blocking access to it. If you’re on a company network, ask your IT administrator to confirm that the app (ula.exe) and the required address/port for Chaos Unified Login are not blocked: http://localhost:30301/
4 Reinstall Chaos Unified Login
If you don’t see the Start Chaos Unified Login shortcut, the app may not be installed correctly.
- Download the latest Chaos Unified Login installer from:
https://my.chaos.com/download/build?product=Unified+Login - Run the installer and complete the setup.
- Restart your computer (recommended).
- Start your Chaos product and try logging in again from the product.
If the Chaos Unified Login app is installed, but has issues, you can try to re-install it by following the steps in this article.
macOS
1 Start Chaos Unified Login manually
- Open Finder and go to the Unified Login folder (default path):
Applications → Chaos → Unified Login - Start the ula app.
- Start your Chaos product and try logging in again from the product.
If this fixes the issue but it comes back after a restart, continue with the next steps.
2 Make sure it starts at login
Chaos Unified Login installs a helper script that registers its background supervisor as a service and makes sure it always starts:
- Open Finder and go to the installation folder (default path):
Applications → Chaos → Unified Login - Locate the script named registerService and double-click to run it.
After running registerService, restart your Mac and try to use your Chaos product again.
3 Check your firewall / security software
If Unified Login appears to be running but you still see the error, a firewall or security suite may be blocking it. If you’re on a company network, ask your IT administrator to confirm that the app (ula.exe) and the required address/port for Chaos Unified Login are not blocked: http://localhost:30301/
4 Reinstall Chaos Unified Login
If you can’t find the app at all:
- Download the latest Chaos Unified Login installer from:
https://my.chaos.com/download/build?product=Unified+Login - Install the macOS version.
- Start your Chaos product and try logging in again from the product.
If the Chaos Unified Login app is installed, but has issues, you can try to re-install it by following the steps in this article.
