I am getting "Error code 193 - %1 is not a valid Win32 application" when starting 3ds Max

This is sometimes happening if the currently installed OS lacks some important component required to run Corona, however, we are not exactly sure what it is. The full error message is:

 

DLL <C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2016\plugins\CoronaUtils2016.dlt> failed to initialize. Error code 193 - %1 is not a valid Win32 application.

 

Possible solutions:

  • Upgrade Windows to 10 ,11, or newer. 
  • Re-install Corona.
