An internal error has occurred causing your image to contain NaN (Not a Number) value

This article explains what to do in case you are getting the below error message. Usually it is accompanied by black or white pixels appearing in the rendered image.

An internal error has occurred causing your image to contain NaN (Not a Number) value.
Please report the bug with the scene attached. We can fix these problems promptly if we have the scene where it happens.

Please follow these steps:

  1. Archive your scene with all assets.
    • 3ds Max: go to File > Archive
    • Cinema 4D: go to File > Save project with assets
  2. Go to the support ticket submission form and fill it in:
    • Use a descriptive subject such as "I am getting a NaN error".
    • In the Description field, explain how exactly to trigger the error: which camera to render from, which frame to render. If some adjustments are needed to scene objects, materials, or lights - let us know what exactly to do. If you are using some 3rd party plugins, list them along with their versions.
  3. Attach your scene archived with all assets under the Attachments section

Once we receive the scene and reproduce the NaN error thanks to your instructions, we will be able to find out where exactly it comes from and provide a solution.
