Object displacement is currently not compatible with the pattern modifier and will be disabled.

This error message appears if there is at least one object in the scene using a combination of:

  • Displacement computed by Corona (displacement applied through a Corona material or Corona Displacement modifier)

    and

  • Corona Pattern modifier

Such combination is currently not supported so the displacement is automatically disabled.

The Corona Pattern modifier works fine with 3ds Max geometry-based displacement such as the Displace modifier.

Solutions / workarounds:

  • Use a base object with the 3ds Max Displace modifier and then apply the Corona Pattern modifier on top (this limits the final displacement quality to the subdivision quality of the base object).

    or

  • Duplicate the base object. Remove the Corona Pattern modifier from it. This way, you will end up with two identical base objects: one with the Corona Pattern modifier and one without it.
The base object with the Corona Pattern modifier can use the native 3ds Max Displace modifier to produce the displacement effect and then have the Corona Pattern modifier on top. This object should be invisible (only the resulting pattern should be visible).
The base object without the Corona Pattern modifier can use the Corona-computed displacement (e.g. a displacement map in its material). Displacement computed by Corona will have higher quality than the one produced by the 3ds Max Displace modifier.
